Police target Hedge End car cruisers in clamp down

Police in Hedge End put a 'ring-of-steel' around the retail park in Tollbar Way, just off junction 7 of the M27 on Sunday evening, (August 24), as they once more targeted car cruisers who regularly descend upon the area.

A total of 30 motorists were subjected to stringent vehicle checks that resulted in a number of them receiving a range of penalties for Road Traffic offences and other criminal offences.

Seven motorists were issued with tickets for non-endorsable offences; two others received prohibition notices as their vehicles were not fit for road use.  Where modifications had been made to a vehicle and not disclosed, the driver's insurance company was notified.

The operation was run jointly by the Constabulary's Roads Policing Unit, Force Support Unit, Dogs section, Special Constables and the local Safer Neighbourhoods Team.

A/Sgt Stuart Tribbeck who co-ordinated the operation said: "This forms part of our ongoing commitment to prevent unlawful assemblies by car enthusiasts, and to make the roads around the retail park safer by preventing 'road racing' and other irresponsible driving within the car parks.

"Although there are a number of law abiding motorists who want to do nothing more than show off their vehicle to like-minded people, this will unfortunately attract a minority element that are not content with this.  It is these people whose actions cause us concern and expose innocent people to risk or danger.  This will not be tolerated.

The officer concluded: "We will continue to run similar operations in the future and will turn up without warning.  'Cruisers' are therefore advised not to continue assembling at the retail park, as we will deal robustly with anyone who does, especially those found to be breaking the law."

Calypso Cay Resort
We have been alerted to a holiday scam operated by Calypso Cay Resorts in Florida.  A telephone call claims you have won a free holiday and then asks for your bank details to collect £150 for administration costs for sending the tickets, etc.
Unfortunately, these calls are not filtered by the Telephone Preference Service as they come from America.
Could you please warn residents, clients, neighbours, friends that this is scam and should not be actioned.
